Running a speed test
A speed test sends test data between your browser and our servers on Cloudflare's network. The test data is random and is discarded immediately. Running a test does not store anything about you.
Adding your result to the operator map
After a test, your result is added to the public operator map about 20 seconds later, or sooner if you pick your connection type or leave the page. This is on by default: untick “Add my result to the coverage map” under your result to stop it. If a result is added, we store:
- your download and upload speed, ping, jitter and packet loss;
- the connection type you select (Wi‑Fi/broadband, 5G, 4G, 3G or 2G);
- your internet provider's name, as identified by Cloudflare from your network and your network's public network number (ASN);
- an approximate city-level location provided by Cloudflare, rounded to roughly 10 km;
- the time of the test.
Your IP address is shown to you on screen during a test, but we do not store it. We also don't store device identifiers, cookies or any account information. The map shows only aggregated results per area and operator.
Outage reports
When you report a problem with a service or internet provider, we store which service, the kind of problem, your approximate city (from Cloudflare) and the time. To stop the same person reporting repeatedly, we also keep a one-way code made from your IP address and a random value that changes every day and is deleted after two days. Your IP address itself is never stored, and the code can't be traced back to you. Reports are deleted after 8 days.
Our outage monitors only visit the public websites of the services listed; they don't involve you or your device.
Remembering your last result
Your latest result is kept in your own browser for up to a week, so the streaming check and bandwidth calculator can use your real speed. If you enter your plan's speed, that's remembered in your browser too. It never leaves your device.
Cookies and tracking
This site doesn't set its own tracking cookies. If advertising is shown on the site in future, the ad provider may use cookies, and this notice will be updated before that happens.
Third parties
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and the map uses OpenStreetMap tiles; those services receive standard web requests from your browser when the page loads.
